Allotment Kills Tatting

I haven't tatted in some time but not because I've stopped enjoying it. I've recently started to maintain half an allotment with my flatmate and have discovered that I like growing things. Who would've thought it?!? It's hard work at times but I'm getting a kick out of it and now the balcony is also covered with plant pots containing three types of carrot, two types of tomato, two types of spring onion and about half a dozen different herbs. The windows have propagators in them with lots of lovely seedlings which for the most part seem to be growing well.

I got such a kick out of seeing my first seeds break the surface that I put my name down on the list for a plot in one of my local allotments with the expectation that I'd be waiting months if not years for a plot of my own however I have a meeting tomorrow to view. The word excited doesn't even come close.

I will tatt again soon as I don't want to fail in my 25 motif challenge. More importantly I find it very relaxing.

How exciting! Good luck with your allotment! Sounds just fine. Plant a cabbage or two for me!

Watching things grow is so rewarding! I love my flowers and vegetable garden every year, and really enjoy getting out there to inspect everything. It's amazing how much things grow in just a day or two. As far as the effect on tatting - there just isn't enough time to do it all, so we have to enjoy what we can when time permits :) People like us need 72 hours in a day! Enjoy your gardening AND whatever tatting you can fit in.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful news! Hope you try herb gardening too.

Phew. I was wondering where you'd got to! It IS nice growing things - and allotment fever once it gets you, seems to bite quite hard. My dad and at least 3 of my fiends have one (each) and they all love them.

I think some photos of the fruits (veggies?) of your labour are in order too :)

Nice typo in my last comment. I don't usually mention my fiends - or not in public anyway. Make that friends!

Thanks all.

With any luck I'll be able to eat some of the veggies we've been growing on the plot that we've been helping to maintain. The runner beans have been going great guns and the same with the cabbages. I can't wait!

OC do your friends keep you supplied with fresh veggies? I'm thinking that if only half what I want to plant grows then I'll have to start giving the stuff away.

Sorry, I forget that the shorthand I use is just in my head. OC = occasionalcrafter.
